OBJECTIVE

The objective is to use a "physical pendulum" to launch a projectile and hit a target distance. Teams of 1 to 3 students can enter this event.

THE RULES:

  • Competitors must use one of four cannons provided.

  • The projectile is a steel ball with a hole drilled through the center to accommodate launch from the cannon.

  • Launch of the projectile occurs when the cannon swings and encounters a crossbar.

  • The launch angle will be given.

THE COMPETITION:
  • Each team will draw a target distance.

  • Teams will have ten minutes for calculations before their shot.

  • Each team will be allowed two shots

  • The projectile must be drawn back and released from between thumb and forefinger of the competitor.

  • The sum of the variance distance from the target distance will be your score.

  • The lowest score wins.
